Graduate Survey (AS)

Description

The Graduate Surveys are conducted throughout Switzerland by the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (FSO) to find out the employment and training situation of university graduates of all levels. The online questionnaire consists of a FSO module used for all universities and an UZH-specific question module.

Purpose

The collected data provides the universities with information on the employment and training situation of their graduates as an important element of educational success and enables comparisons with other Swiss universities.

Frequency / Timeline

The surveys take place every two years. Graduates complete the survey one year and five years after graduation. One year after the data is collected, the compiled data set is delivered.

User groups

  • Students fill out the questionnaire after they have successfully completed their studies.
  • Study program directors, the Offices of Student Affairs, and central units of UZH (e.g. Student Advisory Services, Career Services) have access to the information provided by the Graduate Surveys. Up to now, UZH has not done comprehensive reporting on the results of the surveys; individual reports are compiled upon request.

Synergies

The data provided by the Graduate Surveys can be used as an information basis for Quality Meetings, as well as for quality statements required as part of the evaluation or accreditation process. Selected KPIs are also incorporated in the interactive Quality Index (QSL). In the future, the data from the Graduate Surveys will be available interactively in a dashboard.

KPIs

  • FSO module: Career and academic background before university education, progress of university education, doctorate, postgraduate training and continuing education, transition from university to work, current employment, knowledge and skills, demographic characteristics and personal situation
  • UZH module: Reasons for studying at UZH, exceeding the standard period of study and reasons for it, overall satisfaction, satisfaction with individual aspects of the completed study programs (e.g. information/advice, learning infrastructure, suitability of program structure, assessments/supervision, introductory phase, program outcomes)
