Monitoring Education & Teaching (MSL)

Description

The Monitoring Education & Teaching is a dashboard for visualizing selected key performance indicators (KPIs) based on student- and study-related data managed in SAP SLcM. The MSL KPIs provide indications of the quality and success of study programs and thus support evidence-based quality development of education and teaching at UZH.

Purpose

The Monitoring Education & Teaching serves as an important information basis for the independent and decentralized quality development of the study programs.

Frequency / Timeline

The data in the MSL Dashboard is updated daily and available at any time. They can be filtered and/or aggregated according to user-specific questions.

KPIs

KPIs are reported from two different data perspectives:

  • Study entry cohorts: number of students, number of entries by gender, educational origin and academic background, age of students, course of studies (change of subject, dropouts, graduations), incoming and outgoing students
  • Graduation cohorts: number of graduates by gender and educational background, age of graduates, final grades, prospective: academic level transition, duration of studies, ECTS credits earned per semester

Stakeholder groups involved

  • Study program directors (and coordinators) and the Offices of Student Affairs have licensed access to the MSL Dashboard and can view the KPIs for their faculty. Interpreting the data and deriving measures is the responsibility of the user groups.
  • Study program directors can use the MSL KPIs as a basis of information for the Quality Meetings as well as for the quality statements to be written as part of further quality processes (e.g., Education Quality Reports, accreditation report).
