Evaluations of Assessments (ELN)

In the future, an Evaluation of Assessments (ELN) is to take place every 6th year. Currently, the new ELN instrument is in the development phase. In Fall Semester 23 and Spring Semester 24, pilot evaluations will take place for selected modules. From Fall Semester 24 onwards, the new evaluation model will be introduced throughout the UZH and the first ELN will take place in Fall Semester 28.

Description

In the Evaluations of Assessments, students evaluate the assessments they have completed within a module. In comparison to the Course Evaluations (LVE), it is not individual courses and instructors that are evaluated, but rather cross-course aspects. These can include, for example, the fit of the content and type of assessment to the content of the module, the connections between the teaching and learning elements of the module and elements of the assessments or the coherence between the competencies taught in the module and those tested in the assessments.

Purpose

The Evaluations of Assessments serve the further development of the contents and structures of the modules and the assessments. In the future, they will complement the LVE.

Frequency / Timeline

The Evaluations of Assessments take place after the completion of the assessments. The survey rhythm provides for an evaluation every six years. The concrete evaluation processes are based on the specific needs of the individual faculties and study programs. The "evaluation load" for the students should be kept as low as possible.

Evaluation cycles:

  • Fall Semester 23 and Spring Semester 24: pilot phase ELN, no regular LVE
  • Fall Semester 24 and Spring Semester 25: regular LVE at the PhF, ThF, WWF, RWF
  • Fall Semester 25 and Spring Semester 26: regular LVE at the MeF, VSF, MNF
  • Fall Semester 26 and Spring Semester 27: regular LVE at the PhF, ThF, WWF, RWF
  • Fall Semester 27 and Spring Semester 28: regular LVE at the MeF, VSF, MNF
  • Fall Semester 28 and Spring Semester 29: Evaluation of Assessments at the PhF, ThF, WWF, RWF
  • Fall Semester 29 and Spring Semester 30: Evaluation of Assessments at the MeF, VSF, MNF
An Individual Course Evaluation (ILE) is always possible for all instructors.

Stakeholder groups involved

  • Students complete the questionnaires for the assessments.
  • Instructors receive the result reports in an appropriate form (e.g., result reports for the modules they taught either directly or via the module coordinators).
  • Module coordinators (or similar) are involved in the organization of the ELN and receive the result reports.
  • Study program coordinators and Offices of Student Affairs receive both individual result reports and aggregated result reports.
